Andrews & Beaven
Andrews & Beaven Ltd. of Christchurch were the New Zealand agents for Blackstone & Co. of Stamford, England and also built chaff-cutting equipment. Around 1910 they designed and built a self-moving chaff-cutter that consisted of a Blackstone horizontal oil engine mounted on a long chassis with heavy wooden wheels. They exhibited their new machine at the Christchurch Agricultural Show in 1911, and it subsequently went to a local farm, where it worked for around eight years on chaff-cutting duties. At this point the chaff-cutter was removed and the machine worked for another two decades as a portable power unit for driving threshers and other stationary equipment.
